Day 7: Tuesday April 17

These shots were taken last night. Beautiful, beautiful Gion!

There is always some random thing to photograph in Japan

Look closely.

We ate earlier but I was drawn to what was being made here.

I bought one so stay tuned.

The Yasaka-jinja Shrine

This was growing in a tiny pot outside someone's home. It is common to find tiny homes with dozens of small plants growing in pots outside the front door.

A full Geisha experience being advertised.

This was worthy of two shots.

Remember the earlier purchase? Let the late night snack begin.

It was delicious.

Today started with coffee in a Gion Starbucks

Steamed beef buns for breakfast.

We're headed up the very steep Mt. Arashiyama to see the Japanese macaque (snow monkeys).

Great view of Kyoto.

You could only feed them inside the cage and outside you were not allowed to look them in the eyes.

The Katsura River.

Arashiyama bamboo forest.

Wedding photos alongside the Kamogawa River.

Our Maiko experience starts with a traditional Japanese sweet.

Our Maiko, Tomitsuyu, is one month away from becoming a Geisha (known as a Geiko in Kyoto) after 5 years as a Maiko.

She prepares the tea.

It was quite thick and contained maacha.

She performed a very elaborate dance.

The neck is considered the most sensual part of a Japanese woman and is accentuated by the makeup pattern.

We got to have a Q&A with her. Her English was excellent.

We return to the real world.

Two minutes later we passed a real Maiko/Geiko

This was the meal Luke and I had.

 Sake

The restaurant was located down here in Ponto-cho

The Japanese national football team is known as the Blue Samurai
